Bringing Order To Your Life || Get Your Life (Part 1) || Pastor Michael Kilpatrick

Get your life in order!

Many times we get frustrated with the way our life is or where it seems to be going, not realizing the “time” we are in is different from our expectations of what, or where, we should be.

To discern means to perceive or recognize. I means to distinguish someone or something with difficulty by sight or with other senses.

Your life may seem and feel really difficult right now so that is why it is important for you to tap into your spiritual senses, with the Holy Spirit, to properly discern where your life should be and how to get it in proper order.

There’s A Time

Read Ecclesiastes 3:1-8.

It's easy to set your heart on doing one thing or getting to doing something else but the reality might be that it's not time to. It is hard to submit to the actual “time” we are in because we desire so much to be in a different one.

The second half of verse 6 reminds us that there is a time to keep and a time to throw away. If you want to get your life in order, determine what you need to keep and what you need to throw away. What do you need to keep? What do you need to throw away?

Hebrews 12:1 tells us to strip off every weight that slows us down. That’s getting your life in order. What do you need to strip and throw off so you can move forward?

Discern The Time

Before you get into determining what you need to keep or throw away, you need to discern the time. Why? You need to know what goes into, and what need to be removed, in THIS time. Though you would like to have time to do everything, you have to slow down and determine exactly what things need and require your attention now to move forward and be fit for what you’re called to be. You need to know what the focus and priority is of the season you are in so you know what you are to keep or rid of.

Let’s briefly get an understanding of what it means or looks like to “discern the time” through 3 examples.

Time To Create

First, God.

Read Genesis 1:1-2

“Without form” in verse one is to’hoo (toe who) which means to lie desolate. Figuratively it means empty place, nothing, and a place of chaos.

Notice God had already created the heavens and the earth. At this point, they existed. At this “TIME” the state was void, empty, and a place of chaos. Earth exists but it has no order.

What in your life is void, empty, and is a place of chaos? What in your life needs order? What is your life at this “TIME”?

We are going to go deeper into this passage Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 8:30pm EST in our weekly interactive, facilitated virtual Bible Study via Zoom! We will discuss Creating Order Like God. Be sure to join us live! We would love to have you.

For now, note that God at this “TIME” saw the state of the Earth and began to bring order to it. Essentially, God determined that it was time to create on Earth. Repeatedly throughout this passage of scripture you will find “God said, Let there be…” And that what He saw after it was created or manifested, was that it was good.

Discern the time: Is it time for you to create? What is it time for you to create? What needs to be created within what was already created in your life?

So much more I want to say here but you’re going to have to just join us Tuesday!

Time To Build or Rebuild

Next, let’s look at Nehemiah briefly.

Read: Nehemiah 1:1-4

What is the chaos in your life leading you to do? Pout? Be bitter? Taint your character and interaction with other people? Whine? Complain? Or take you to a place in greater intimacy with God?

Here we see the condition of Jerusalem. Nehemiah was a cupbearer to the king but have a concern for the life of his people. Let’s jump to Nehemiah 2:1-8

Read Nehemiah 2:1-8

Notice when Nehemiah was asked what he was requesting, he had an answer. How? Go back and read the rest of chapter 1 and you will get a peek into a conversation with his time with the Lord. Between then and now, Nehemiah received and obtained instruction and a strategy.

With the chaos in your life, are you going to the Lord to get instruction and strategy so when opportunities and resources come, you have an answer to the question of what do you need?

Read: Nehemiah 2:11-18

Evaluation! It’s time to go beyond what people are saying about the disorder in your life… What are the real conditions on the ground? What are the real areas of ruin, brokenness, and disorder in your life? How does what God spoke to you line up with what is reality in real time in your life?

Notice Nehemiah didn’t just come in and start hammering and commanding people. Yes, he discerned the tail was to rebuild but he did his due diligence and took the time to inspect without interference first.

Silence the outside voices for a moment and you and God inspect the condition of your life in real time without outside interferences.

Time To Organize

Lastly, lets look at Jesus!

Matthew 14:13-21

I know you need a moment but people and your assignment keep pulling on you. There’s chaos in your own emotions and your life but it seems that you always have to be on and keep having to show up. In this season you are going to have to learn to do what He has called and instructed you to do and then send them away to handle what’s in your own life. It is great to be able to be there and organize stuff in other peoples’ lives but you need time to get your life in order too. Get away!

Learn from Jesus. Jesus was trying to get away and have a moment. He eventually did and so will you.

Also notice how Jesus organized the situation. They were in a desolate place. The disciples said send them away. Here is the organization lesson: identify what you have and what is available. Bless it by dedicating it to God and giving Him thanks for it. The take action. Delegate as able

Read Mark 6:35-40

Notice the organization: In groups by 50s and 100s. Luke records Jesus saying groups of 50. Either way, there was a structure and order. Everyone sit down. Where? In the grass. How? In groups of 50

Bring order to the chaos and get your life in order. What can be grouped and tackled one group at time. Bring order and divide the solution to each category/group.

Get Your Life In Order By First Discerning The Time

These are just 3 examples of how order was brought to situations that desperately needed it in the Bible. Here are the key takeaways and things you can do to get your life in order.

  1. Identify where there is disorder in your life.
  2. Evaluate the true condition of the disorder in your life.
  3. Bring order by grouping or categorizing things so you can address things in smaller groups at a time.

So identify the the time.

  • Is it time to keep or throw away? Discern the time.
  • What is the time? Is it time to create order in your life?
  • Is it time to build new things in your life or rebuild things that have been broken down? Is it time to organize your life establish a system for better execution.

If you are going to be fit to do what you are called to do, you first have to bring order to your life by discerning the time.

Invitation

The first requirement to bring order to your life is to have a relationship with Jesus. Through him we have access to our Creator, the one to designed and formed us in our mother’s womb. When we give our lives to Jesus we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and He helps and guide us, even with things like bringing order to our lives and being able to discern the time.

If you don’t know Him or have a relationship with Him, I encourage you to take that next step. Want to live your life for Jesus and accept His invitation of salvation? Want to learn more? We would love to connect with you to help you understand what the next steps are and help you make them. Contact Us and simply say, “I receive Jesus”. We will follow up with you as soon as possible to pray with you and help you move forward in your relationship with Jesus.
