Message 1 of 5 in Making It To The Finish Line Series
As we get closer to Resurrection Sunday (Easter) at the end of this month, it’s important for this time to not just be a moment of mere observation. This season is an opportunity for greater transformation and empowerment to fulfill what we are called to do in light of the reality that He’s risen!
This month is a progression in our purpose as we fulfill our Kingdom assignments with Jesus as our guide and model. For each of the things we have been tasked to do by God, let’s all get to the “it is finished” finish line.
Today we start with our commitment!
Commit
-
Pledge or bind (a person or organization) to certain course or policy.
-
Be dedicated to (something)
Let’s see commitment in action through Jesus:
I Must Be (Luke 2:41-52)
"After three days they found Him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard Him were amazed at His understanding and His answers. And when his parents saw Him, they were astonished. And His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You treated us so? Behold, Your father and I have been searching for You in great distress.” And He said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?” And they did not understand the saying that He spoke to them. And He went down with themand came to Nazareth and was submissive to them. And His mother treasured up all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man." Luke‬ â€2‬:â€46‬-â€52‬ â€ESV‬‬
Where can you be found? What would you be found doing?
The committed can be found “sitting among teachers” (wise counsel and sound teaching), asking questions, and displaying application and underrating.
Our commitment to our calling and purpose can lead to offense but is there a resolve in you that there are some things you must be in this season? If not, can you truly say you are committed?
With Jesus as our model, we can see that the committed can identify what they must be/do while also submitting to authority until they can be released to do more. While waiting for the proper time like Jesus, the committed increase in wisdom, stature, and favor.
Let It Be (Matthew 3:13-17)
"John would have prevented Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?” But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented." â€â€Matthew‬ â€3‬:â€14‬-â€15‬ â€ESV‬‬
The committed don’t put off for later what needs to be done now! Jesus modeled submission to stay committed to the mission. Jesus didn’t allow who He was to change or alter what needed to be done. Neither should we. Is your submission and commitment greater than your ego, title, prestige, or status? If not, you have to ask yourself if you are committed to the call of God or the image/representation that comes with it?
Be Gone (Matthew 4:1-11)
"Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, He was hungry." Matthew‬ â€4‬:â€1‬-â€2‬ â€ESV‬‬
The committed’s commitment will always be tested! The test reveals your readiness to move forward in your calling.
"Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you serve.’” Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to Him." Matthew‬ â€4‬:â€10‬-â€11‬ â€ESV‬‬
The committed use their authority and command things to leave that do not belong. What must you command to be gone to maintain your commitment in this season? Command Satan to leave, release your stuff, and leave your stuff alone in Jesus name!
And another moment to shout: Help is coming! The Lord sees! May angels come to your aid and minister to you to reignite your commitment in this season.
Be Fulfilled (Matthew 4:12-17)
"And leaving Nazareth He went and lived in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, so that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:" â€â€Matthew‬ â€4‬:â€13‬-â€14‬ â€ESV‬‬
The committed do what is required for what has been spoken to be fulfilled. Where is your commitment leading you so that which has been spoken might be fulfilled?
This section’s heading in the Bible is “Jesus Starts His Ministry”. The lesson: Your commitment is required before you start and must be maintained throughout the entire journey.
Commit To The Lord & His Calling!
This week, access your commitment to the Lord and what He’s called you to do. Don’t kill your promise and the fulfillment of the things you are called and created to complete because of a lack of being committed.
