The Subtlety of Self-Sabotage || The Dangers of Self (Part 1) || FLC Bible Study Replay
Aug 28, 2023
We like to blame it on the devil but no, it’s you. It is time to become more aware and ask the Lord to search us. One of the greatest tools in professional development and growth is to be introspective. It is time to get real with ourselves and God so we can identify what is truly keeping us from moving forward.
Self Sabotage is a failure to see ourself rightly and it is time for it to break off of our life. In this bible study, Tiffany lead us in a study seeing how our senses can seduce us into self-sabotage. Here is a quick recap:
- Sight
- 2 Samuel 9:1-3, 7-11
- Mephibosheth saw himself as a dead dog. He saw himself as useless because of his ailment.
- We tend to self-sabotage subtly by taking the things that happen to us and seeing ourselves through the lens of deficit.
- Often we settle for less because we see ourselves as unworthy.
- Don’t limit yourself to your conditions, environment, or what you see with your natural eyes.
- Hearing
- 2 Samuel 10:1-4
- What you hear determines how you’re able to stand.
- Who has your ear when things begin to shake up. If you are going to do what God has called you to do, who has your ears? What’s competing? What have you been rehearsing?
- You have to be intentional with your words because your words is what you hear.
- Speak the word to silence the negative voices in your atmosphere.
- Taste
- 2 Samuel 11:1-5, 14, 12:9-14
- David had a preference… he liked fine women. He had an appetite.
- What do you have a taste for?
- Do you hunger after the plans of God or pleasures of their world?
- Touch
- 2 Samuel 13:1-2, 6-15
- We self-sabotage by keeping certain thing or people closer than we are suppose to.
- What do you keep close within reach that would take you out of the will of God?
- What or who is in your reach that you need to remove?
- Smell
- 2 Samuel 16:21-22
- What are you doing that creates a stench to the Lord?
- In your interactions with people, are you a sweet aroma or a stench?
- Are people attracted to you or are they repelled by you? How is your attitude. How do others describe your scent.
- When we don’t know how to connect with people we break ties.
